International Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Day

To mark the International Drug abuse and illicit trafficking day and the silver jubilee year celebrations, the Mental Health Nursing department of Laxmi Memorial college of nursing outlined three activities on three consecutive days The main aim of all the three programs was to create awareness to the public on prevention of drug addiction among students.


A Short film competition was held on 22nd June to mark the International Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking day 2022 on the theme “drug addiction” for the faculty and students of mental health nursing department of various nursing colleges in Karnataka. The best three short films were awarded cash prize and a certificate. The Department also organized an awareness program to the public on ill effects of drug addiction among students through a well known local television V4 media watched by most of the Mangalorean community on 23rd June 2022. Various areas of drug addiction were highlighted such as ill effects and rehabilitation.


A one day awareness program was organized for the government and aided high school teachers of north and south region of Mangaluru at Laxmi Memorial college of nursing on 24th June 2022 . The Chief guest cum Resource person Dr P.V. Bhandary, Director and Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr A.V. Baliga Group of Institutions, Udupi delivered the key note address on the theme “addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crises”. In his key note address he outlined the theme was drawn following Covid crises and the important role the teachers can play in moulding the life of the students. Shri Sudhakara K Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Mangalore emphasized the teachers to draw maximum benefits from the awareness programme. Dr. Larissa Martha Sams, Principal, Laxmi memorial college of Nursing mentioned that the college is in its 25th year of establishment and the college conducts various educative programs for the benefit of the society. All the three sessions had videos and colourful power point slides which made the sessions interesting to the participants. Certificate of participation was awarded to all the teachers. The program ended with remarks from the participants and group photo session.
