The Department of OBG Nursing is one of the Clinical Nursing Specialty departments of the institute. It provides courses in obstetrical and Gynecological Nursing with theoretical and practical elements to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The department is designed for graduate and post graduate students to develop in-depth knowledge and skill needed to perform in the different settings of maternity nursing, including physical and psychological aspect of parenting. The department encourages student research in the core areas of women’s health, reproductive health, high risk pregnancy, neonatal care and related health areas pertaining to women and newborns.
Objectives
To impart knowledge for the students to:
Provide holistic care to women in antenatal, intranatal and postnatal period.
Demonstrate competency in maternity skills which promote quality care to the women and child.
Provide holistic care women having gynaecological problems.
Demonstrate ethical in practice and research.

Lab Facilities
It is set up with the view to enable the students to provide comprehensive care to Mothers, Neonates and children. The infrastructure of the lab includes delivery cot, adult cots, pediatric cots, different articles and instruments used in Obstetrics & Child Health Nursing.
MCH laboratory equipped with simulators, various kind of models and necessary articles for procedure demonstration like assessment of antenatal mother, postnatal mother, and newborn and how to conduct the labour etc. These all help the students to acquire Knowledge & skills in patient care that are to be practiced in clinical settings.

National Mammography Day
13th October 2019: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing in collaboration with A.J Institute of Medical Sciences observed National Mammography Day – 2019 on 13th October at 10.00 am, in C.S.I. Shanti cathedral, Balmatta, Mangaluru. The chief guest Rev. Robinson Barnabas, CSI Parish Incharge Mangaluru highlighted on the importance of awareness health talks among women to keep them healthy and strong. Dr. Naveen Rudolf Rodrigues delivered a talk on breast cancer and methods of early detection and made the people understand what is Mammography and its importance through a video show.
